We work primarily with the Helix aspersa Müller species, widely recognised for its quality and adaptability. Through considered breeding, feeding, and care practices, we ensure that every stage of our process meets high standards of sustainability and product quality.
Helix AgriTech was established to address a gap in the South African market for dependable, large-scale snail production. As demand continues to grow locally and internationally, we are building a business that not only makes commercial sense, but also supports job creation, skills development, and the advancement of modern agriculture in Africa.

What we do
From breeding to premium products
At Helix AgriTech, we manage the full lifecycle of snail production through a carefully controlled, science-led process. From breeding through to final harvest, every step is designed to ensure quality, consistency, and sustainability.
Snail farming
We begin with high-quality breeding stock sourced from leading European providers. These snails form the foundation of our production cycle, where they reproduce, lay eggs, hatch, and grow to maturity within a structured seasonal cycle.
Through careful husbandry and feeding programmes, we create optimal conditions for healthy growth, ensuring strong, uniform output across each cycle.
Mucin extraction
Throughout the growth cycle, we extract snail mucin using a safe and ethical process that does not harm the snails. This allows for continuous production while maintaining the wellbeing of the population.
The result is a high-quality natural ingredient used in skincare today, with growing potential in pharmaceutical applications.
Harvesting
At maturity, snails are carefully prepared for harvest in line with international standards. Adult snails are placed into controlled hibernation to preserve quality before distribution into premium escargot markets.
This process ensures that the final product meets the expectations of high-end food markets.
Farming method
Our farming approach is based on advanced, proven methodologies developed over decades of international experience. We utilise a structured breeding system, including the Curtain Method, which optimises space, improves population control, and enhances yield.

Controlled environment
All production takes place within purpose-built, climate-controlled greenhouse units. These environments allow us to regulate temperature, humidity, and feeding conditions, removing reliance on external climate factors.
